Drives:
The Cornwall Coastal Path:
Offers both the enthusiastic walker, and those simply wanting a gentle
stroll, some of the most magnificent unspoilt scenery
to be found anywhere in the country. Particularly beautiful sections
within easy reach of Coombe Farm include the stretch
from Polruan
to Lantic Bay and on to Pencarrow Head, Shag Rock and Polperro; from
Rame Head to Penlee Point,
Kingsand and on to Mount Edgcumbe House and Park; and from
Pentire Point along through Port
Quin to Port Isaac.
There are also superb moorland walks and country drives on both Bodmin
Moor and Dartmoor with their wildlife,
ancient villages and prehistoric remains and legends.
Bodmin Moor:
Places of particular interest on Bodmin Moor include Altarnun
with its parish church known as the 'Cathedral of the Moors'; Blisland,
a lovely granite village around a green; Bolventor
with Jamaica Inn made famous by Daphne du Maurier;
Cardinham; Minions,
the centre for antiquities including the Hurlers Stone Circle, the
Longstone, the Cheesewring and
Rillaton Barrows; North Hill,
close to River Lynher, with its beautiful church; St
Breward with fine old clapper
bridge over
De Lank River; St Clether
with largest holy well in Cornwall; Temple, with farm buildings
dating back to 1120 and
Trewartha, an abandoned
mediaeval hamlet where tin and gold were found.

Dartmoor:
Places of particular interest on Dartmoor include Becky
Falls with 70ft. drop over
massive boulders, Belstone
village with
stocks and whipping post; Berry
Pomeroy Castle, stark 13th century
ruins on dramatic wooded hilltop; Brent
Tor with tiny 12th century church
built by monks of Tavistock Abbey on dramatic volcanic rock outcrop with
superb views of Devon and Cornwall; Dartmeet
and Postbridge
with their ancient granite clapper bridges; Grinspond,
an impressive bronze age enclosure with the remains of over 20 huts,
cattle pens etc.; Henton, Willings
Walls and Trowlesworthy
Warrens (NT) 3,333 acres including
the Moor's richest ancient sites of cairns, cists, enclosures and over
100 hut circles; Lydford Gorge
with its riverside walk and 90ft. white lady waterfall and Lydford woods
which have been a forest for 1,000 years;
Manton village
where John
Galsworthy lived, with fine 15 th century church and old yew
trees; Meavy, traditional Devon village of green, public house and
ancient oak tree; nature reserves at Yarner
Wood, Wistmans Wood and
Black Tor Copse; and Widecombe-in-the-Moor, famed by the ballad
Widecombe Fair. The fair takes place in September.
